trabalho. ABSTRACT: Urban areas have strategic importance for
hosting the vast majority of the population, but these areas are
dynamic and require continuous and updated mapping. As a
consequence of this need, remote sensing (RS) plays a key role in
mapping and updating these areas, providing systematic coverage
and high geometrical quality, but the complexity of urban targets
is a persistent theme in the literature and goes beyond spectral
limitations. In this context, this work explored comparatively the
potential and constraints of the WorldView-2 sensor (WV-2) in the
fine classification of urban targets by means of non-parametric
algorithms and having as a study object an area containing a large
diversity of land cover materials, located at the campus of
Campinas State University (UNICAMP), belonging to Sao Paulo state,
Brazil. Data mining methods where explored in order to fulfill
this task, refined by the boosting algorithm (AdaBoost.M1) they
where also coupled to the geographical object-based image analysis
(GEOBIA). Three algorithms were also analyzed for two legend
levels: C4.5 (J48), C5.0 (See5) and CART, with and without the
help of a digital height model (DHM). As a result, 12
classification scenarios where generated for a single image of the
study area. The boosting algorithm displayed its efficiency in the
12 experiments by means of assisting the decision trees to reach
thematic accuracy values of up to 0.74 to the first 12 legend
classes (Level I) and up to 0.72 to 36 classes of the Level II.
Regarding the comparative analysis among the algorithms, the CART
algorithm with the help of the DHM, generated the decision tree
model with the smallest number of rules among them. Lastly, we can
conclude that the methodology hereby presented proved to be
satisfactory in the data mining targeted to the object-based
supervised classification of the WV-2 image related to the study
area analyzed in this work.",
